About Us

Pocket Libraries Foundation CLG is a registered non-profit company based in Nairobi, Kenya, dedicated to promoting literacy and cultivating a strong reading culture.

Pocket Libraries was started by two bookish dreamers as a passion project - a quiet space for book lovers to read and connect. We have grown into something bigger than those two imagined - a thriving community resource. Since opening our doors, we've been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and support from readers of all ages, and we’re proud to have played a small part in encouraging a deeper love for books within our community.

Our library holds a diverse and ever-growing collection of over 3,000 books (2,500+ unique titles), with a special focus on literature for children, tweens, and teens. We believe fostering a love for reading from a young age is key to nurturing curious, thoughtful, and informed individuals.

The first Pocket Libraries branch was opened in November 2023 and is located at Jaffery Sports Club on Naushad Merali Drive in Lavington, Nairobi, right next to the children's play area. It’s everything Pocket Libraries is known for - a tiny space, but with shelves full of stories, comfy reading corners, and a space that feels like home for readers of all ages. We're excited to bring our little world of books to a new neighbourhood, and to welcome even more readers into the fold.

In January 2026, our reading family has grown even bigger! We opened a new pocket of bookish joy at Provisions Kenya, on Mugomoini Close, off Farasi Lane in Lower Kabete - a bright, green‑hearted hub in Lower Kabete that celebrates Kenyan‑made artisan goods, nature‑inspired products, and community gatherings. Here, between handcrafted treasures and leafy corners, our little library has found the perfect place to spark curiosity and invite new readers to pull up a cushion and get lost in a story. This is technically our third library space, after we were forced to close our 209 State House library in December of 2025. No matter how you count it though, this newest library is a little pocket of magic where we can keep sharing our love of books, stories, and the joy of reading with even more people.

As a non-profit, Pocket Libraries reinvests all income directly into the library and its programs, with the goal of increasing access to books and creating engaging, inclusive reading spaces for the community.

Pocket Libraries is run with the dedicated assistance of an advisory board, comprised of members who excel remarkably in their respective fields. Their collective expertise and guidance are of immense value, providing direction and insights that are invaluable to the future vision and growth of Pocket Libraries.
