Hazina House
Our community library in Kibera, built together with Uweza, is now open!
It went from Instagram DM to kids sitting around shelves in only 3 months! What was once an unused room is now a real, living library space, with books on shelves, kids reading, computers set up, and people already making the space their own.
Pocket Libraries raised funds and partnered with our partners (?) to set up a community library in the heart of Kibera. The space now serves children aged 1 to 18 and houses a growing collection of nearly 500 books. The library is entirely free to access and is used by more than 300 children. This transformation not only revitalised a physical space but created a safe, stimulating environment for learning and exploration.
A huge thank you again to everyone who donated, volunteered, shared, covered books, carried shelves, or simply cheered us on along the way
We’re still accepting book donations, especially:
children’s books
tween & teen fiction
young adult books
(And honestly, seeing books arrive for the space is still very exciting every single time.)
